South Mountains State Park is under long-term closure until further notice.
The park sustained a lot of trail damage due to Hurricane Helene. Please do not attempt to enter the park, even on foot, as conditions are unsafe.
Most state parks in western North Carolina have reopened at least partially.
Mount Jefferson State Natural Area remains closed. Chimney Rock, Mount Mitchell, and South Mountains are closed long-term until further notice. Visit ncparks.gov/closures for more information on the status of all facilities.
