About the Park

Located in Rockingham and Guilford counties 15 miles north of Greensboro, Haw River State Park is a unique park that centers on The Summit, a residential environmental education and conference center, accommodating retreats and conferences for groups big or small. Trails and a boardwalk offer a journey into wetlands and a floodplain swamp. The park also houses the Iron Ore Belt Access, which is perfect for day-use visitors to enjoy views of wetlands rich in flora and fauna while meandering through piedmont oak-hickory forests.

Fees

There are no fees required to access Haw River State Park for day use. Fees are charged for summer and grand camps, certain event permits, and facility reservations.

Pets

Pets are allowed at the park. They are not permitted inside buildings. Pets must be on an attended leash of no longer than 6 feet at all times.

Scheduled Events at Haw River State Park

Park staff lead regularly scheduled interpretive programs that allow the public to gain perspective into what makes North Carolina state parks naturally wonderfully. Learning opportunities are available for all ages. Most events are free, though some may require pre-registration.

Summer Day and Overnight Camps

Come to Haw River State Park for summer fun and adventure! Every year, the Summit environmental education staff at Haw River hosts day camps centered on a unique theme each week. The park also hosts the award-winning overnight "Grand Camp" for grandparents and their grandchildren.

Friends of State Parks

Friends of State Parks is a nonprofit citizen organization supporting, promoting, and advocating for the North Carolina State Parks system as a whole. The group helps provide funding for Junior Ranger and Youth in Parks – Environmental Education programs, as well as grants for state parks projects.
