State Parks Reservation Rates and Activity Fees
General information
Service, cancellation, and other fees
A $3 service fee is charged for all reservations, including those made in-person.
- The fee covers the cost of processing the reservation with ReserveAmerica. It is non-refundable, except when refunds are issued due to park closures.
- There is an additional $3 cancellation fee to cancel a reservation, so it costs $6 to cancel per site per night. Additional fees may apply depending on the facility and how many days prior to the scheduled arrival date that the cancellation is made.
- This fee does not apply to equipment rentals, swim passes, special activity permits, or entrance fees.
- All prices listed on this website page include the $3 service fee, when applicable.
- A $25 fee will be charged for all returned checks.
Senior citizen and military/veteran discount (*)
Seniors, veterans, and military members are eligible for a $6 discount per night on certain campsite reservations.
- Senior citizens must be 62 years old or older to receive the discount.
- A valid ID with birthdate or proof of military service or veteran status is required upon check-in at the campground.
- The discount cannot be applied to primitive or group campsites, vacation cabins, and facility rentals. The discount can be applied to marina transient dockage slip rentals at Carolina Beach State Park.
- The discount cannot be applied to activity fees or permits. Discounted rate for entrance fees to Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, and Kerr Lake state recreation areas is available with ID for senior citizens 62 years old or older and with proof of military service or veteran status.
Seasonal availability
- Some campsites, facilities, and activities are not available year-round. Please check the park website or contact the park for seasonal opening and closing dates of campgrounds, swimming areas, boat rentals, and other facilities, as they may vary each year.
- Entrance fees to Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, and Kerr Lake state recreation areas are charged on weekends in April, May, and September, and daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Passes and other discounts
The North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation is a state government agency, and we do not accept federal passes, such as the America the Beautiful Pass, or passes for other states. We do not offer discounted entrance passes or any other discount aside from the senior citizen and military/veteran discount.

Marina Information
- Transient dockage slips are rented on a first-come, first-served basis. Transient rentals cannot exceed 14 days in a 30-day period.
- All slip rental fees must be paid in full at the time of the rental agreement for the desired term.
- Long-term slip rentals require application. Please contact the marina at 910-458-7770 for assistance.
- Long-term slip rentals are charged according to lease term and vessel size. Six-month leases run 183 days from the lease execution date, while 12-month leases run 365 days from the lease execution date.
Refund Proration Policy
Either party may terminate the lease agreement by providing a 30-day written notice. Refunds will not be given unless the tenant provides 30-day written notice of early termination to the marina office, and Carolina Beach State Park secures another tenant for the slip within the 30-day period. Refunds will be prorated at a daily rate for days remaining on Slip Rental Agreement.

- There is a $6 discount off single slip transient dockage per night.

Permit Fees Information
- Additional expenses incurred by the park to host an event may be charged in addition to the Special Activity Permit fee.
- Please contact the park where you want to hold your event to determine if you need a Special Activity Permit.
- Special Activity Permit fees are determined by the type of event and the estimated attendance.
- If you wish to serve alcohol during your event, you must submit a Special Activity Permit Alcohol Supplement Application and pay a nonrefundable fee of $200. The Special Activity Permit Alcohol Supplement includes special conditions that must be met by the applicant in order for the application to be approved. Please visit the Permits page to learn more.
- All permits must be approved by the park superintendent prior to the event. Permit applications are available online or by contacting the park. Applications must be submitted at least 14 days prior to the date of the special event to be considered.
- The permit fees are charged in addition to any facility rental reservation that the host wants for their event. Please secure permit approval before reserving your facility to avoid cancellation fees.
- For Research Activity Permits, please use the Research Activity Permit online application to apply for a free permit. For Film and Photography permits, an application is available online to apply for a permit through the North Carolina Film Office.

Seasonal Parking Fees
- The parking/vehicle entrance fee is charged only at Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, and Kerr Lake state recreation areas on weekends and holidays in April, May, and September, and daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
- During other days and months of the year, there is no fee to enter the day-use accesses at the reservoirs.
- All other state parks are free to enter year-round. The only exception is the attraction access of Chimney Rock State Park, which charges entrance fees determined by Chimney Rock Park, LLC. Please visit the Chimney Rock Park website for their entrance fees information.
Senior Citizen and Military/Veteran Discount
- The discounted entrance fee is for a single vehicle only. *The discounted rate is not applicable for buses.

Annual Pass Information
- The Seasonal Parking Pass covers one vehicle entrance fee per day at Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, and Kerr Lake state recreation areas. This pass has no other benefits.
- Both the Annual Pass (which also covers swim fees and equipment rentals at other parks) and the 4WD Beach Annual Pass (which also covers the 4WD beach access at Fort Fisher State Recreation Area) can be used to cover one vehicle entrance fee per day at Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, and Kerr Lake state recreation areas. - The Seasonal Parking Pass can be purchased only from the visitor centers at Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, and Kerr Lake state recreation areas. It cannot be purchased online.

4WD Beach Information

- Only registered motor vehicles are allowed in the 4WD beach access area. No ATVs are allowed.
- Drivers must follow designated routes, avoiding dunes, vegetation, and marked nesting areas.
Annual Pass Information
- The 4WD Beach Annual Pass covers one 4WD beach access fee for one vehicle per day. The pass will cover access any day of the week.
- Neither the Seasonal Parking Pass nor the regular Annual Pass offer the benefit of 4WD beach access. You must purchase the 4WD Beach Annual Pass in order to use it at Fort Fisher State Recreation Area.
- The 4WD Beach Annual Pass includes swim fees and equipment rentals at other parks, as well as entrance fees for the reservoirs. Please visit the Annual Pass page for the full list of benefits.
- The 4WD Beach Annual Pass can be purchased only from the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area park office. Annual Pass holders are required to register in the park office.

Ferry Information
- The ferry does not run year-round. Please check the Hammocks Beach State Park home page for season dates and daily times.
- The NC Division of Parks and Recreation does not operate any other ferry service. These rates and the Annual Pass apply to the ferry at Hammocks Beach State Park only. Please check with the NC Department of Transportation website for more information about other coastal ferry services.
- *There are no discounts applicable to the Annual Pass.
- A valid ID is required to receive the senior citizen rate.
- Children under the age of 3 can ride the ferry for free.
- Campers are permitted one free roundtrip ferry ride per day with the purchase of initial ferry tickets and multiple nights of camping reservation. Current camp permit with attached receipt for ferry tickets must be presented at the visitor center to receive ferry tickets at no charge.
- Strollers and wheelchairs are permitted on the ferry. Carts and wagons are not permitted on the ferry unless collapsible.
- Pets are not permitted on the ferry.
Annual Pass Information
- The Annual Pass and the 4WD Beach Annual Pass include six roundtrip ferry tickets at Hammocks Beach State Park per day.

Boat Launch Information
- The boat launch fees apply to the boat launch at Carolina Beach State Park and the boat ramp at Hammocks Beach State Park. Kayak launch is free at Hammocks Beach State Park.
- Most boat ramps at other state parks are free to use. Day-use ramps at Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, and Kerr Lake state recreation areas charge a parking/vehicle entrance fee on weekends in the spring and fall, and daily in the summer. - Visitors who want to use an Annual Pass to launch a boat must check in at the marina at Carolina Beach or the visitor center at Hammocks Beach.
- *There are no discounts applicable to the single vessel launch fee.

Swim Passes Information
- Swim passes are required at:
- Cliffs of the Neuse State Park
- Hanging Rock State Park
- Lake James State Park
- Lake Norman State Park
- Morrow Mountain State Park (pool)
- The NC Division of Parks and Recreation also manages designated swimming areas for the public at Fort Fisher State Recreation Area and at Fort Macon, Goose Creek, Jockey's Ridge, Jones Lake, and Pettigrew state parks. There is no cost to utilize the swimming areas at these parks.
- There are also swimming areas at various accesses at Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, and Kerr Lake state recreation areas. A parking/vehicle entrance fee is charged to access these day-use areas during weekends in the spring and fall and daily during the summer. Annual Pass Information
- The Annual Pass and the 4WD Beach Annual Pass include six swim passes per day, which can be used at the swim lakes at Cliffs of the Neuse, Hanging Rock, Jones Lake, Lake James, and Lake Norman state parks, as well as the pool at Morrow Mountain State Park.
- The Seasonal Parking Pass does not include swim passes to the aforementioned parks. However, it does include access to swim beaches at Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, and Kerr Lake state recreation areas during the peak season, since it covers the parking/vehicle entrance fees at any day-use areas at these three parks. - Passholders must have their pass hang tags to utilize its benefits. A receipt for the Annual Pass does not substitute for the actual pass.
- Annual Passes are valid for one calendar year, regardless of when the pass is purchased. The cost of the passes cannot be prorated. *There are no additional discounts that can be applied to the cost of the Annual Passes.
- Lost or stolen passes will not be refunded or replaced.
