Come out for a Ranger-led nature hike. We will be exploring our fire-dependent longleaf pine ecosystem and the recently drained millpond that provides a glimpse of land-use history dating back to the 1800s. We will observe numerous native species to the Sandhills and visit some 200-year-old longleaf pine trees with Red Cockaded Woodpecker cavities. Bring a bottle of water, a camera (if you like taking pictures), and your walking shoes! We will meet in front of the park office for this event.
Mount Mitchell State Park is now reopened to the public.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is open up to the state park entrance but remains closed from just past Mount Mitchell through milepost 334 near Little Switzerland. Please read our blog post for the most up-to-date information on park access and trails status.
