Become a water engineer! Learn why wetlands are important and what organisms live there. Practice engineering skills by constructing watershed models with our hands-on stream tables. Search for aquatic critters in water samples from Lake James waterways.

A sensory-friendly toolkit will be available for participants to use during the program as needed. This event is part of the 2025 NC Science Festival.

Meet the Program Lead at the back patio of the Visitors Center in the Paddy's Creek Area.

About the NC Science Festival

Founded in 2010, the North Carolina Science Festival is the first statewide science festival in the United States. Through a series of community-based events each April (hosted by schools, colleges, libraries, museums, parks, businesses, and other local organizations), the Festival celebrates the economic, educational, and cultural impacts of science in North Carolina. It is an initiative of the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. For more information, please visit ncscifest.org.
