Frequently Asked Questions

Pets

Pets are permitted at North Carolina State Parks. They must be on an attended leash of no longer than 6 feet. When camping, pets must be inside the campers vehicle or tent during quiet hours. Pets are not permitted in some areas, including swim beaches, cabins, or inside buildings. Please pick up after your pet and properly dispose of waste in trash bins.

Fees / Access Pass / Annual Pass

Most North Carolina state parks are free to access. Entrance fees are charged at Chimney Rock attraction and during peak season at Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, and Kerr Lake state recreation area. Fees are charges for camping, facility reservations, swim passes, rentals, and permits.

North Carolina does not have a state parks access pass like other states, because most of our parks are free to enter. We do offer various levels of Annual Passes that includes unlimited day-use access to the reservoirs when fees are charged. Higher levels of the pass also offer equipment rentals, swim passes and more. Please visit the Annual Pass page for more information.

Changes and Cancellations to Camping and Facility Reservations

Campers can cancel their reservations online. Log onto your account at northcarolinastateparks.reserveamerica.com, find your "Active Purchases," and each reservation should have a link to cancel. Please note that cancellation fees of $6 per night per reservation will apply and will be deducted from your refund. You have until the day before the first day of your reservation to cancel online.

Same-day cancellations cannot be done online. These must be processed through the ReserveAmerica call center at 1-877-722-6762. Same-day cancellations result in a charge for one night's camping, in addition to the fees. You cannot cancel a one-night reservation on the same day.

Changes to reservations, including switching to a new campsite, changing dates, adding dates, removing dates, and changing parks must also be done through the ReserveAmerica call center.

Cabins and group campgrounds cancellations require at least 14 days prior to the first day of your reservation. If you cancel within the two weeks, you will not receive any refund. During those two weeks, you can move your reservation to a new date and you will be charged only a transfer fee.
