The swim beach is closed for the season. It will re-open on May 1, 2014.
The concession stand, as well as canoe and kayak rentals are closed for the season. They will re-open in May.
To further our efforts to reduce wildfire hazards and restore some areas of the park to their natural and historic landscape, park staff are planning prescribed burns for much of the Catawba River Area and sections of the Paddy's Creek Area. Prescription burns are very weather dependent and may take place on very short notice.
Areas that may be affected by the planned prescribed burns include: the Catawba River Area office, picnic areas/shelters, lakeshore, and campground areas. Trails that may be affected include: Fox Den Loop Trail, Lake Channel Overlook Trail, Sandy Cliff Overlook Trail and Mill's Creek Trail.
If you have plans to visit, please contact the park a few days in advance (not weeks). Efforts will be made to notify the public well in advance of any planned burning activity via radio, newspaper and television (when feasible). However, we repeat that these burns may take place with short notice because they must take place within very restrictive weather conditions.
Questions can be directed to park staff during normal business hours at 828-584-7728.
There are currently no bike trails open at Lake James State Park. We have several miles of mountian bike trails under construction and we hope to have these completed and ready for use by summer 2014. The ONLY place you can legally ride a bike in the park is on the park road. Please do NOT ride bikes on existing park hiking trails.
