RALEIGH -- William B. Umstead State Park in Raleigh will benefit from a park support campaign by the major retailer Macy’s in the Triangle, according to the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation.
Visitors to four of Macy’s stores in Raleigh and Durham can make donations to help the state park that will be matched by Macy’s during the retailer’s “Heart Your Park” campaign March 7-31. The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is partnering with Macy’s in the effort, with donations channeled through The Umstead Coalition, a nonprofit that supports programs and land protection efforts of the state park.
William B. Umstead State Park is one of more than 550 parks in the nation that will benefit from the campaign, with Macy’s stores selecting nearby parks or green spaces for donations targeted directly to park improvements. The effort is part of the retailer’s larger “Secret Garden” spring campaign.
“William B. Umstead State Park is a much beloved asset in the Triangle, in terms of both green space and recreation,” said Carol Tingley, acting state parks director. “It’s gratifying when businesses such as Macy’s, nonprofits such as The Umstead Coalition and government can become partners in its well-being.”
