Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF)  »  How Grant Recipients Are Selected

Applications are received by the state until its specified deadline date. The applications are evaluated, scored and ranked by LWCF staff according to the project selection criteria in the Open Project Selection Process (OPSP), so that only the top-ranked projects (up to the total amount available that year) are selected for funding.

The LWCF staff recommends a list of projects for funding to the LWCF Review Committee. The LWCF Review Committee reviews the rankings and recommendations prepared by the LWCF staff, as well as other relevant data, and recommends a list of projects to the State Liaison Officer (SLO) for funding. Successful applications are then forwarded by the SLO to the National Park Service for final review and approval.
