Bridge Closure on South Turkey Creek M.U.T.

The bridge over Crabtree Creek at William B. Umstead State Park has been removed and will need to be replaced. Hikers, mountain bicyclists, and equestrians should not utilize Ebenezer Church Road bridge due to motor vehicle traffic.

After a project to repair several bridges at William B. Umstead State Park, the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation, in consultation with the North Carolina Department of Transporation, determined that the bridge along the South Turkey Creek Multiuse Trail over Crabtree Creek is in need of replacement. We have removed the bridge and are in the early stages of planning for the new one. We are currently exploring various logistical options, including providing an alternate route.

In the meantime, visitors should be aware that there is no connection from South Turkey Multiuse Creek to either North Turkey Creek Multiuse Trail or Cedar Ridge Multiuse Trail. Please plan accordingly.

Hikers, bicyclists, and equestrians should not utilize the Ebenezer Church Road bridge, as this is a busy vehicular road (45 mph speed limit) and does not currently provide safe pedestrian access.

We appreciate your patience as we determine the next steps of this major construction project.
